Our new fashion film for the latest issue of Schön! Magazine pays homage to the big hair, outrageous outfits and EPIC TV title sequences synonymous with the 80s. We dived into day 1 of pre-production with researching the latter (probably the most fun had in the pre-production stage of a project) and some of history's greatest 80s TV tunes could be heard blasting through the heavy brick walls of our Victorian railway arch studio (admittedly, for longer than probably necessary).
As fun as this was, we weren't only doing this for a trip down memory lane - once the models were cast, the outfits chosen and the location confirmed, we began the process of producing a soundtrack that would be integral to the whole piece. If we could establish a tone that felt authentic to the iconic 'sound' of the 80s, everything else would fall in place.
And it did - with some hilarity ensuing throughout.
Doing the grade in post-production was, again, all about creating an 80s 'look' - which, in this case, meant taking a brilliant 4K file and making it look...not-so-brilliant. At the same time, we still wanted to retain the quality, so getting the balance right was tricky.
Some might recognise our Love Boat, Dallas and Happy Days-inspired title sequences featuring the various actors and musicians who grace the pages of Schön! 31.
We wish all briefs were this fun! You can check out the whole film below and see the accompanying stills from the project here.
